The Story Behind the Story

Hi Reader!

I’ve noticed something interesting lately.

More reporters are reaching out with very specific questions about magnesium, multivitamins, protein trends, fiber and gut health. And at the same time, I’m hearing from professionals who want to be part of these conversations… but hesitate.

So today’s note blends both worlds.

What reporters are asking.
What not to say in interviews.
And a reminder that your voice matters more than you think.

So here’s what I’m seeing and what it means for you.

Warmly,

Bon

Bonnie's Bites:

Confidence Isn’t Just About Visibility

When Ana Reisdorf came to me for media training, she didn’t lack expertise. She lacked clarity.

Clarity around her message.
Clarity around her positioning.
And yes, clarity around her pricing.

Once she refined how she communicated her value, and what that value was worth, everything shifted.

It was a pleasure working with Ana. Helping her refine her message and fully own her value brought me back to my own early days in media … when I had the knowledge, but was still growing into my confidence. Here's what Ana said about working together:

"Working with Bonnie was truly inspiring and a worthwhile career investment. She was incredibly transparent about how I should price my work and how to position myself for media opportunities. Bonnie gave me clear, actionable feedback on improving my presence and increasing my chances of landing a local TV spot and brand partnerships. Her honesty, experience, kindness, and practical advice helped me see my value in a new light. I left our sessions feeling more confident and better equipped to grow my visibility as an expert."

Confidence isn’t just about speaking up. It’s about knowing what you bring to the table and pricing it accordingly.

More stories like this are coming as my new book takes shape. Stay tuned...you'll be the first to hear about it!

In the meantime...if you need media coaching to take you to the next level...I'm a reply away! 🙋🏻‍♀️

You Asked:

What are some things you should never say (or do) in a media interview?

I Answered:

I love this question because most mistakes don’t come from lack of knowledge. They come from nerves.

Here are five I gently coach people away from:

  1. Overloading with jargon
If your audience needs a dictionary, you’ve lost them. Simpler isn’t “dumbing down.” It’s clarifying.
  2. Saying “That’s a great question” before every answer
It sounds polite. It can also sound rehearsed. Just answer confidently.
  3. Going off on tangents
Longer doesn’t mean stronger. Tight answers build trust.
  4. Speaking in absolutes
Nutrition is rarely black and white. Avoid “always” and “never.”
  5. Assuming something is “off the record”
Friendly does not equal private. If you say it, assume it could be quoted.

Media isn’t looking for perfection. It’s looking for someone who can explain a point in a way that feels natural and trustworthy. Preparation builds confidence. Authenticity is what makes people listen.

12 Foods High in Magnesium Nutritionists Recommend

Magnesium seems to be having a media moment!

Sleep. Stress. Muscle cramps. Heart health. Magnesium to the rescue seems to be everywhere right now.

In this recent piece, I break down which foods naturally provide magnesium and why food-first still matters.

What often gets missed in these conversations is that not all magnesium supplements are the same. Magnesium oxide, for example, is common and inexpensive, but it’s also the form most likely to cause GI upset or diarrhea. Other forms may be better tolerated depending on what you’re taking it for.

In other words, it’s not just “take magnesium.” It’s about understanding which type fits your body and your goal.

For EatingWell, I wrote about what dietitians actually rely on instead of automatically reaching for a multivitamin at breakfast.

Do dietitians take multivitamins?
Sometimes.
But that’s not where they start.

In my newest article, I take you inside what dietitians actually prioritize instead of relying on a daily multivitamin and when supplements truly do make sense.

We talk about:
• Why food synergy still matters
• When targeted supplements are smarter
• The simple morning habits that make a bigger impact than you might think
